John Maier, Ph.D, MD
Vice President Biomedical Research

Dr. John Maier joined the ChemImage Corporation  in 2002 as a Senior Biomedical Scientist and is the operational leader of the biomedical applications group. Dr. Maier’s focus is working with our biomedical applications group in exploring and developing applications which will ultimately impact clinical medicine. The work of the biomedical applications group involves technology development and assessment with a focus on chemical imaging of biologically relevant samples.

A second aspect of the work done by the biomedical applications research group is scientific research studies with clinical and academic partners to test and validate applications of chemical imaging in the biomedical application space.

John’s background in medicine and physics enables him to bridge the gaps in perspective and communication, which exist between the strong technical base within our organization and the clinical environment where we are striving to develop and deploy solutions.

John graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Physics from the University of Notre Dame then matriculated at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he earned a Ph.D. in experimental physics with a focus on spectroscopy of tissues and an M.D. as part of the Medical Scholars Program.

This training was supported in part by an Individual National Research Service Award from the NIH. After graduation, John trained as a resident in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center – Shadyside Hospital and completed all USMLE examinations. John is a current license holder of a “Medical Physician and Surgeon” license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
