Senior Image Processing Scientist
Reports to: Bob Schweitzer, Lead Algorithm Scientist
Job Description
Responsible for the development and implementation of image and spectral-based algorithms, research and develop novel data analysis algorithms, help to drive improvement in overall system performance, generate and author patents and manuscripts, support ongoing government and commercial projects, and work directly with software engineers to implement algorithms into commercial software products.

Chemical Imaging combines molecular spectroscopy and digital imaging to provide two-dimensional molecular images that detail morphology, composition and structure.
Regular Job Duties/Responsibilities Include
- Develop and implement image and spectral-based algorithms for detection, classification, and quantification of materials in hyperspectral images
- Research and develop novel data analysis algorithms for product and application development
- Provide feedback on image quality to help drive improvement in overall system performance
- Lead research activities for given projects
- Collaborate on government proposals and grants in the area of algorithm development
- Generate and author patents and manuscripts for publication and present findings at scientific meetings
- Support ongoing government and commercial projects
- Collect data as warranted to support the algorithm development efforts
- Work directly with software engineers to implement algorithms into commercial software products
Requirements:
- PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, Applied Math, or the Physical Sciences with an emphasis in signal and image processing
- 3+ years strong Matlab programming experience
- Extensive experience with robotics-related disciplines such as computer vision, object recognition, and visual tracking
- Extensive experience with imaging processing techniques such as image filtering, segmentation, feature extraction, multi-sensor image fusion, and image registration
- Experience with hyperspectral image analysis and with multivariate statistical techniques such as pattern recognition, calibration, classification and optimization
- Experience with Simulink and with real-time processing is a plus
- An understanding of and appreciation for process-based approaches to research and development
- Well versed in current algorithm literature
- A willingness/ability to travel.
- Action-oriented with a strong desire to aggressively pursue solutions to problems
- US citizenship
