PITTSBURGH, July 1, 2014 — ChemImage Corporation, a developer of molecular chemical imaging systems for the defense, forensics, pharmaceutical, and biomedical industries, announced today that this May marked the 20 year anniversary of the company's founding.
ChemImage Founder and Chief Technology Officer Dr. Patrick Treado first established the company with his wife Dr. Carey Treado in 1994. Since then, ChemImage has grown steadily over the years into a powerhouse of innovation and technology, providing a wide range of products, software and services across the globe to a diverse array of customers. Dr. Treado who is a recognized pioneer in the field of chemical imaging first had the idea for the business during a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. As an analytical chemist he encountered frustration with the immaturity of tools for optical analysis of disease and decided to pursue the development of a technology for the detection and diagnosis of disease that centered on Raman and infrared spectroscopy and imaging. Between 1994 and 2002, the company grew under Dr. Treado's leadership and the direction of an experienced management team with the development of new products, services and customers.
Fast forward to today. ChemImage is a privately held company with 75 employees, 148 issued U.S. patents, 4 subsidiary companies (Gateway Analytical, ChemImage Sensor Systems, ChemImage Imaging Technology and Lightsphere Diagnostics) and two additional internal divisions focused on the development of forensic instrumentation and biomedical research. "It's amazing to think that what began as a small startup company with only 2 people has been able to grow into a Company that's technology is now used to support so many different application in such a wide range of industries, "said Dr. Treado. "But a company is only as good as its people, and over the years we have collected some of the brightest minds to help keep us a hub for innovation."
