Chemical Imaging of TLC Plates of Closely Related Ballpoint Inks: A Blind Study (PDF 2.3 MB)
Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC) is a simple and inexpensive technique that is often used to compare and contrast the various components of ink(s) during a forensic analysis. The forensic analysis of ink often relies on this method for the visualization of dye components that may constitute questioned or known inks. However, the visualization of developed TLC plates remains a subjective process, strongly dependent on the experience of the interpreter to determine the presence of subtle differences in band patterns of the developed TLC plate.
