Raman Molecular Analysis of Cellular Apoptosis

Currently available methods to detect and evaluate cell death depend on sophisticated reagents which mark the presence or absence of specific molecules in the cells. Though readily available, these assays are often challenging to interpret.

Raman molecular analysis is a sensitive, rapid, reagentless technique, making it a superior alternative to traditional fluorescence-based cell death assays.

Why Use Raman Molecular Imaging for this Application?

  • Completely reagentless
  • No multi-step cellular assay needed
  • Rapidly measure biologically relevant changes in cellular systems
  • Easy identification of specific molecular and physiological information about cells

Raman molecular images are acquired from cell samples illuminated by a laser in a microscope. The images and spectral information are analyzed using chemometric-based classification algorithms to objectively classify the samples in terms of apoptotic state.
