Making The Case For Chemical Imaging In Forensic Technology

ChemImage has a tool for every forensic scientist—whether it’s for trace evidence, questioned documents, or fingerprints. We provide microscopes, macroscopes, identification tools and screening tools to help solve the crime and detect the evidence that makes the case.

For example: Raman Spectroscopy and Raman Chemical Imaging for Materials Identification can be applied to various samples to identify an unknown, similar to IR spectroscopy.  A unique Raman signal, or molecular fingerprint is generated for each type of sample, making identification of drugs, biological fluids, trace evidence (fibers, paints etc), and other samples, quick and easy.

Colorimetric (Visible Absorbance/Reflectance) and Fluorescence Chemical Imaging of fibers can identify whether two or more fibers could have come from the same source without the use of a conventional micro-spectrophotometer. Application areas include:

  • Determination of gunshot residue
  • Analysis of fingerprints on complex backgrounds
  • Analysis of inks and questioned documents
  • Characterization of adhesives
  • Characterization of stains
  • Fiber identification and analysis
  • Characterization of polymers
  • Drug chemistry

ChemImage instrumentation provides significantly more information than any other solution on the market—by offering real time, simultaneous Chemical Imaging and spectroscopy that rapidly identifies areas of interest.  Because of the combined image and spectral information, the data is intuitive, making it easier for a layperson (juror) to understand.

The ChemImage CondorCondor™

Applies ChemImage’s wide-field Chemical Imaging techniques to the study of forensic samples to reveal information that cannot be obtained using conventional techniques.
