Dr. Nelson leads spectroscopy and imaging contract research development at ChemImage. As Chief Scientist, he is responsible for managing the R&D group Applications Science personnel and budget, securing research funding at the state and federal level, plus ongoing IP development across chemical, material science and clinical markets.

He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Chemistry from Frostburg State University and earned a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. He joined ChemImage as a Senior Scientist in 1999 after distinguished work as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University (see U.S. Patent number 6,198,531).

With dozens of publications and patents to his credit for landmark developments during his tenure at ChemImage, Dr. Nelson continually provides direction and guidance for 
hardware and software improvements to ChemImage products while mentoring and developing the next generation of analytical scientists.

Dr. Nelson serves as the Raman Imaging Task Force Chair for ASTM Subcommittee E13.10 on Molecular Spectroscopic Optical Imaging. He is a long time resident of Harrison City, PA, where he attends Community Church (A United Methodist Congregation). 

Dr. Nelson enjoys playing musical instruments including drums and guitar, and spending time with his family.
