ChemImage Enhances Security for Creation Festival 2014
On June 24 and 25, 2014, ChemImage demonstrated the security-enhancing capabilities of its Hyperspectral Imaging Standoff Explosives Detection systems to the Northeast Creation Festival 2014, held in Mount Union, PA. The weeklong event draws over 55,000 attendees from all over the world and is one of the largest open-air Christian music festivals held in the world.
Both the ChemImage LightGuard™ and VeroVision™ detection systems demonstrated the ability to screen vehicles entering the Festival site for the presence of exterior explosive residues. Working with the Festival public safety team, the ChemImage sensors screened a significant number of randomly selected vehicles on the first day with minimal disruption in the normal flow of traffic entering the site. A key feature of the performance of the ChemImage sensors was that they were located 10 meters away from the vehicles being screened.
Fortunately, no explosives were found on the vehicles entering the Festival grounds. However, the sensors were able to clearly detect an explosive residue intentionally transferred to the exterior of a vehicle by one of the Emergency Management Officials witnessing the ChemImage testing.
"I am grateful that we could utilize support from ChemImage to exponentially increase our ability to detect hazardous threats that could enter the festival venue" said Adam Miller, Director of Emergency Management for Huntingdon County PA. "While we have a substantial threat screening apparatus, this technology helped to fill a gap and its ability to detect 'test' threats from our sample stock in residue form was extremely impressive. I was taken aback by how swiftly the average screening could be accomplished - less than 10 seconds is certainly a leap forward in efficiency."
